State Budget Committee approves funds for Mills Hall renovation

TERRE HAUTE — The State Budget Committee has agreed to a $22 million renovation of Mills Hall in the Sycamore Towers complex at Indiana State University.

Approval came today during the committee’s monthly business meeting at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis.

Mills Hall is the first phase of a multi-million dollar renovation of residence halls on the ISU campus.

“This project is the first step in updating all the residence hall facilities at Indiana State,” said State Rep. Clyde Kersey, D-Terre Haute, in a news release. “Many of the existing residence halls have had no major renovations in more than 40 years, and this project will create new space for students to study and meet, as well as update utility systems and help bring the facilities into compliance with fire safety and ADA regulations.”

The Sycamore Towers complex consists of four, 12-story residence halls that house around 1,600 students. The renovation of Mills Hall is expected to begin next summer, with completion by fall 2014.

The project will be financed through a combination of bonding and university residence hall reserves.
