TERRE HAUTE —
Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in a driver’s death early Saturday morning.
According to a media release issued by the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, Jeffrey James of Terre Haute, age unavailable, was determined to have been riding a motorcycle south on Indiana 63 about 12:24 a.m. that morning. For a reason still undetermined Saturday afternoon, he was thrown from the motorcycle near the road’s intersection with Springhill Drive.
According to the release, a toxicology report showed James’ blood alcohol level to be .182 percent. The release states he was not wearing a helmet and suffered massive head trauma and severe bleeding. First responders transported James to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for treatment after reportedly determining his injuries were too severe for air transport by helicopter. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
