Eighty-two area nonprofit organizations received more than $180,000 to support their operations. On Thursday, the Wabash Valley Community Foundation and its affiliates, the Clay County Community Foundation and the Sullivan County Community Foundation, made its annual distribution of grants totaling $187,347.29 from its funds designated for specific organization.
These funds, known as designated funds or agency endowments, are created by donors who are passionate about and devoted to one or more charitable organizations, or by the agency itself, seeking to assure an annual source of revenue. The donors’ original gifts are invested, and each year the fund distributes a grant from its earnings to the specified charitable organization.
By creating or contributing to designated funds or agency endowments within the Community Foundation, donors are assured that their favorite charity or charities will receive an annual grant to assist with the charity’s operations. Operating dollars pay the agency’s staff, purchase office supplies, keep the lights on and provide other essential resources for the delivery of services.
Contributions in any amount can be added to any of these endowment funds to support a specific cause or agency. Grants from the Community Foundation’s unrestricted and scholarship funds will be announced later this year.
For more information about contributing to or creating a fund to benefit a favorite organization, contact the Community Foundation at (812) 232-2234 or visit www.wvcf.com.
