Marion County woman jailed after visit to Carlisle prison

CARLISLE — A Marion County woman faces multiple felony charges after her arrest at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility Saturday afternoon on drug-related offenses, according to a news release.

Prison officials identified the woman as Katrina Scott, 27, Indianapolis. She is alleged to have smuggled a small candy bag containing balloons filled with drugs into a visit room and passing the package to offender Coy Daniels.

Prison staff intervened, ended the visit and notified WVCF Internal Affairs and Indiana State Police. After questioning, Scott was taken to the Sullivan County Jail facing preliminary felony charges of trafficking with an inmate, possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamines and one misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge.

Scott was released upon her own recognizance because of what the press release called “medical necessities,” approved by Judge Magistrate Ann Mischler. Investigators allege Scott hid the drugs behind a medical life-support apparatus that was strapped around her waist.

Daniels, who, according to the news release, swallowed some balloons in the package, was taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for treatment.

He faces several conduct rule violations and will be placed in the facility infirmary for observation, the release said. Daniels, 30, is serving a 79-year sentence on murder, robbery, battery and cocaine possession convictions. His earliest release date is November 2034.
