TERRE HAUTE —
A formal charge of criminal recklessness has been filed against a Terre Haute man arrested after a Monday afternoon shooting that injured a teenager.
Robert E. Harrison, 20, appeared via video in Vigo Superior Court 6 on Friday where Judge Michael Lewis appointed attorney Michael Wright as public defender in the case.
Harrison is now scheduled to return to court Feb. 4 for the setting of trial dates.
Harrison was arrested after police were called to Union Hospital around 3:22 p.m. Monday to investigate a 15-year-old boy who had been shot in the face.
Witnesses told police they had been at a house in the 2100 block of North 22nd Street when the incident occurred in an upstairs bedroom. The juvenile was reportedly visiting the residence when Harrison picked up a .22-caliber handgun that he thought was unloaded. The gun went off, striking the juvenile in the face. Harrison transported the teen to the hospital for treatment, and he was transferred to an Indianapolis hospital for additional treatment.
Harrison remains in the Vigo County Jail with bail set at $25,000, cash only.
