Airport planning to host monthly public events

Board approves bid for work on strategic plan

TERRE HAUTE — Airport officials hope to host more public events at their facility, beginning next month.

Bill Foraker, president of the Terre Haute International Airport board of directors, said Wednesday evening the facility will host a “fly-in” cook out in September, tentatively set for the 15th. An airport open house will be hosted there Oct. 6 and 7.

“It’s one of my goals to have an event at the airport every month,” he said, explaining his hope to increase public participation at the facility.

In other business, the board approved a $32,166 bid for work on its strategic plan from M3 Planning of Reno, Nevada.

Airport executive director Bill McKown said the group was selected from a relatively large pool of applicants for the job of crafting their plan.

“I’m excited about working with them. They’re a good company,” he said.

The creation of a strategic plan will be done in conjunction with an overall facility master plan, the latter of which is being funded by a federal grant, he said. The timeline for having these created is short, he said, noting he’d like to have the strategic plan done in about three months.

“It’s aggressive, but I like to be aggressive,” he said.

McKown said the airport should have a 2013 budget ready to review by its Sept. 26 meeting, before it sends it on to the Vigo County Council for approval.
