First Financial celebrates ‘Christmas Around the World’

TERRE HAUTE — Eleven area not-for-profit organizations are participating in First Financial Bank’s 35th “Christmas Around the World” decorating contest. The groups decorated the lobbies of the 11 Vigo County branches of the bank. Each year the bank awards $6,600 in cash awards to the organizations for their efforts.

The displays are available for public viewing during regular bank hours through Dec. 24. Judging will take place on Friday.

Judging by the three-member panel is based on creativity, originality and the accurate depiction of the Christmas theme chosen by the group, 2012 judges are: Rick Burger of Duke Energy, Jennifer Cook of Hulman Center and Cindy Belt of Union Hospital. First place receives $1,500; second place, $1,000; third place, $750; fourth place, $500; and fifth place, $450. The remaining organizations each receive $400.

Organizations participating this year, their themes and banking center locations are:

• Vigo County Extension Homemakers Chorus, “Santa’s Toy Factory,” Main Office;

• Woman’s Department Club, “Frosty and Friends,” Meadows Center;

• Wabash Senior Citizens Center, “Mrs. Claus’s Kitchen,” Sycamore Terrace;

• Northside Neighbors 4-H Club, “A “Happy Feet” Christmas,” Seelyville;

• Wabash Valley Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, “The Sweetest Time of the Year,” Maple Avenue;

• Salvation Army, “Christmas Through the Years,” Plaza North;

• Senior Education Ministries Inc., “A Star is Born,” West Terre Haute;

• Delta Theta Tau Sorority, “Victorian Christmas,” Honey Creek;

• Epsilon Sigma Alpha Delta Zeta Chapter, “Christmas in Candy Land,” Southland;

• CHANCES for Indiana Youth, “Who-Ville,” Springhill;

•  Bethlehem Chapter No. 6 Order of Eastern Star, “Christmas in New York Central Park,” Industrial Park.
