Federal inmate sentenced on additional charges

TERRE HAUTE — Anthony S. Harrell, Jr., 26, an inmate at the Federal Correctional Complex-Terre Haute, was sentenced to six months in prison Thursday by U.S. District Judge Larry J. McKinney. Harrell had pleaded guilty to possession of contraband in prison.

The case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Prisons, according to a news release from the federal complex.

The release stated that Harrell was visited on Dec. 24, 2008, by his brother, Dana T. Harrell. During an embrace observed by correctional officers, Dana Harrell appeared to pass something from his right hand into his brother’s right hand. Anthony Harrrell then put his right hand into his right pants pocket.

Following the visit, Anthony Harrell was searched. Found inside his underwear were two balloons wrapped inside another rubber object. The contents were later laboratory tested and were determined to be marijuana. Dana Harrell admitted passing the marijuana to his brother and has been convicted for that offense.

The sentence imposed Thursday will be served consecutively to the sentence currently being served by Harrell.
