High-speed chase suspect caught in West Virginia

TERRE HAUTE — The suspect in a cross-country, high-speed chase originating in Terre Haute last week was reportedly in federal custody Thursday evening.

According to a post on the Clark County, Ill., Sheriff’s Department’s Facebook page, the suspect was arrested in West Virginia.

His name, according to earlier police statements, was believed to be Bryan Keith Egress, 28, of West Virginia, although he had been known to use the name “Nathanael Lynn Starsick” as an alias.

“The suspect in the May 16th pursuit has been arrested and is in custody. An investigation by the U.S. Marshals Service located the suspect in West Virginia. An operation was conducted and the suspect was taken into custody at a residence, without incidence. Interestingly, he still had in his possession the vehicle he had stolen in Champaign County. He will remain in federal custody,” the post states.

According to personnel at the sheriff’s department, the information on the Facebook post was all that was available Thursday.

Rob Roberts, Vigo County Chief Deputy Prosecutor, said it was too early that evening to know what kind of charges might be brought against him.

Egress was last seen driving a maroon 2000 Ford F-250 pickup truck, reportedly stolen from a home in rural Sigel, Ill., after leading multiple counties’ worth of law enforcement on an overnight chase which kicked off near Locust and North 16th streets in Terre Haute.

At least four vehicles were reportedly stolen during that initial chase through Vigo and Vermillion before going into Illinois.
