TERRE HAUTE — Hundreds of brides-to-be, their family and friends, caught up on the latest in wedding fashion Sunday afternoon inside Hulman Center.
“I think it’s a great turnout,” Tribune-Star marketing director Courtney Zellars said shortly after the 10th annual Tribune-Star Bridal Showcase fashion show, as models walked the runway wearing 2010’s wedding styles.
Zellars said about 650 people attended the event between noon and 5 p.m. This year’s weddings will see new colors featured, such as lapis, guava and clover, she said, adding that “chocolate brown tuxes” are expected to sweeten the mix.
Models donned an array of styles for the fashion show inside Hulman Center between 2 and 3 p.m., showing off the wares of David’s Bridal, Lucia’s Bridal, Seno Formal Wear and MW Tux.
Northview High School senior Callie Wilkerson, 18, portrayed one of the brides-to-be in gowns.
“I thought it was a blast,” she said, noting that her mother, Kim, a Tribune-Star employee, had recruited her for the event. “She surprised me,” she laughed.
Meanwhile, circling the arena, 47 Wabash Valley businesses ranging from photographers to DJs to caterers offered samples to the crowd.
“We got to meet a lot of great brides and businesses and new people,” Tasha Fagg said while working a booth at the show for Louise’s Copper Catering.
Fagg and Carrie Price said the catering service, offered out of The Copper Bar on Wabash Avenue, services a wide variety of functions. “Louise’s is such a historic part of Terre Haute. It’s been around since the 1930s,” Price said, adding that Sunday’s event was her first bridal show in which to participate. “Weddings are usually happy times so the people are really upbeat,” she said.
Zellars said Carrie Culken won the event’s $300 gift certificate from Tiers of Elegance, a cake decorator, while Yvonna Liffick won a $150 veil from Lucia’s Bridal.
Overall it was a good event, Zellars said. “And we’re looking forward to next year’s show.”
