Wood-burning stove may have caused Friday fire

TERRE HAUTE — A wood-burning stove is being considered a possible source of a Friday afternoon house fire in the 4000 block of Tuttle Avenue.

Otter Creek Volunteer Firefighters responded to the scene shortly after 1 p.m. and found the home full of smoke. Two units from the Terre Haute Fire Department also responded to the scene for backup, but soon departed after the fire was extinguished.

A woman occupant of the house was found outside suffering slight smoke inhalation. A Terre Haute firefighter said the woman was transported via ambulance to Union Hospital for medical treatment. Her name was not available.

Damage to the home was mostly from smoke and water, said fire operations chief Robert Salmon of the Otter Creek volunteer department. The fire was contained to the chimney area of the home.

The incident remains under investigation.
