Fort Wayne man back in Vigo to face charges

TERRE HAUTE — A Fort Wayne man wanted in connection with a June 28 home invasion attempt in Pimento will return to Vigo Superior Court 6 on Friday.

Jesus Wbaldo Ramirez-Coronado was booked into the Vigo County jail on Sunday on charges of attempted burglary, a class-B felony, attempted residential entry, a class-D felony, and resisting law enforcement, a class-A misdemeanor.

His bail is set at $75,000 cash.

Ramirez was arrested two weeks ago following a traffic stop in the North Dakota town of West Fargo, which is near the Canadian border. When stopped, Ramirez used an alias and informed North Dakota police that he was an illegal immigrant. He was taken to a detention facility in Minnesota.

Ramirez’s true identity was discovered when his fingerprints were entered into a computer database, and he was matched to records from Allen County, Ind., where he also has pending criminal charges.

On Aug. 3, Vigo County Sheriff’s detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Ramirez, citing  probable cause to believe he was one of three men who were armed with handguns and duct tape when the men went to the Pimento residence searching for a female resident. The female had moved out two weeks prior.

Following the unsuccessful break-in, Ramirez was a front-seat passenger in a Ford Explorer driven by Eddie Wayne Grisham of Washington. The Ford was stopped by police, and another suspect, Antonio Rodriguez, was arrested at the scene. However, Grisham allegedly tried to run down two sheriff’s deputies and led police on a chase that resulted in a lengthy manhunt after Grisham and Ramirez abandoned the Ford in a field.

Grisham was arrested July 27 at the Vincennes Econolodge. He and Rodriguez are both being held in the Vigo County Jail with their bail set at $75,000 cash each.

A U.S. Customs detainer has also been placed on Ramirez so that when he completes any criminal process in Indiana, he can be deported to Mexico.
