Former ‘Survivor’ star Rupert to attend fundraiser

SULLIVAN — Rupert Boneham, a former Indiana gubernatorial candidate and “Survivor” reality TV star, is scheduled to be at Sullivan’s Eagles Aerie 4470 on Saturday for a fundraiser to promote a vocational education project.

A chicken and noodles dinner will be served after the 4 to 5 p.m. “Meet and Greet Rupert” at the Eagles, 8 E. Washington St. Other events Saturday include a cake walk, auction and karaoke by Rae.

According to a news release, the fundraiser is being staged to support “Rupert’s Kids,” the 2013 state project for Indiana Eagles auxiliaries. The program is designed, Boneham said, to teach job skills and instill a sense of confidence and self-worth that will lead each child in the program toward stable housing, employment and relationships which, in turn will help them become independent and contributing members of their communities. The motto of the agency is “Life is good. Be you. Give back.”

Boneham works with young men who have been suspended from school, but not in enough trouble to be part of the legal system, or with others who are left to their own devices. Though his agency is in Indianapolis, Boneham says that this program can be duplicated in any city.

Seating for the event is limited, and all tickets must be purchased in advance. General seating is $10, and joining Boneham at his table is $20.

Tickets can be purchased from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Eagles, or by calling Donna Lisman at 812-887-4917.
