Celebrate the arts in the Wabash Valley at Arts Illiana’s Fall Gallery Collection opening reception scheduled 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at 23 N, Sixth St. in downtown Terre Haute.
Arts Illiana will award 14 arts organizations and arts providers Regional Block Grants. The evening will showcase the artists who were selected to be included in the fall collection exhibition in Arts Illiana’s Sales Gallery. The reception and awards presentations are free.
The Regional Block Grant funds are provided through a portion of the state funds budgeted for the Indiana Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Arts Illiana had $63,000 in grant funds to award for the 2010-2011 grant cycle.
Arts organizations receiving Regional Block Grants are Art Spaces, Inc.-Wabash Valley Outdoor Sculpture Collection, Sheldon Swope Art Museum, Terre Haute Symphony Association, Community Theatre of Terre Haute, Putnam County Playhouse and the Terre Haute Community Band.
Arts Project Support Grants will be awarded to CrossRoads Repertory Theatre, Indiana State University Art Gallery, Indiana State University Music Department, The Maple Center, Putnam County Museum, Bridgeton Covered Bridge Association, St. Mary-of-the-Woods College Music & Theatre departments, and Sullivan Soil & Water Conservation District.
In addition, Bobbie Garver of the Indiana Arts Commission will introduce the Indiana Arts Commission’s 2011 recipients of Individual Artists Grants from this region. The artists are Cynthia A. O’Dell and Barbara Fields Timm from Putnam County; Zann Carter, Michael Flaherty, Fran Lattanzio, Mary Kramer, Peter Williams and Sala Wong from Vigo County.
The musical group The Nerve will perform as part of Arts Illiana’s “Live Music Matters Month.”
