Valley high school cooking competition under way today

TERRE HAUTE — Clabber Girl Corp. and Gordon Food Services will host the fourth-annual High School Chef Competition, beginning today through Saturday, and again Feb. 18, in the Culinary Classroom at Clabber Girl.

Fourteen teams from surrounding high schools, including Terre Haute North, Terre Haute South, West Vigo, North Central, Sullivan and Rockville, will use their culinary skills as they battle to win over the judges. Teams consist of two students selected from the schools’ family and consumer science classes.

Secret ingredients will be revealed to the teams just prior to the competition. They then will create distinctive recipes using the secret ingredients to put together a three-course meal for the competition. Teams will be judged on taste, presentation, sanitation practices, timing and level of difficulty.

The competition is open to the public and will begin at 5 p.m. today. The competition resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday, and continues at 10 a.m. Feb. 18, culminating in the finals that day at 3 p.m.
