Authorities still looking into Monday shooting of teen

TERRE HAUTE — Investigation continues into a shooting Monday in the 600 block of Water Street, which is near the Wabash River on the city’s west side.

Detective Scott Funkhouser of the Terre Haute Police Department said Tuesday afternoon that the 16-year-old victim was in stable condition at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Funkhouser said the shooting is “more than likely accidental,” and it occurred in the teen’s home around 8:30 p.m. Two adult relatives were in the home when the shooting occurred, he said, but as of Tuesday it had not been determined who fired the weapon. Funkhouser declined to say where the teen was shot.

The handgun involved in the shooting was owned by a resident of the home, the detective said.
