The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has awarded the contract for expedited repairs for the closed Indiana 46 bridge over the Eel River. George R. Harvey & Son Inc. from Danville, Ind., submitted the lowest bid, offering to complete the work for $274,033.
Construction is expected to begin by the first of October. Based on the amount of repairs needed, INDOT’s construction engineers estimate the bridge can be safely reopened to traffic in late October.
The bridge on Indiana 46 was closed July 31, when structural engineers retained by INDOT recommended closing the bridge after identifying more corrosion in the structural steel than was previously documented.
The detour follows Indiana 46 east to Indiana 246, west to Indiana 59 north and back to Indiana 46.
