SULLIVAN —
An early morning crash today in Sullivan County claimed the life of one and sent another to the hospital.
According to a media release issued today by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle driven by Auston McKamey, 18, was heading south on County Road 100 East when it left the east side of the road, rolling several times before coming to a rest on its top about 200 feet away. The crash occurred near the intersection of County Road 500 North, about three miles south of Shelburn at 12:50 a.m.
Both McKamey and an unnamed juvenile passenger were reportedly ejected from the vehicle. The two were initially transported to Sullivan County Community Hospital and then by air to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. According to the release, McKamey was reported deceased by the Marion County Coroner’s Office this morning.
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor, and there were no signs of braking at the scene, per the release.
