TH woman gets in-home detention for child neglect

TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute woman will serve one year of in-home detention after pleading guilty to child neglect for buying a case of beer for three minors and giving one teen Xanax.

Laura Bridges, 41, appeared Friday in Vigo Superior Court 6 where Judge Michael Lewis accepted a plea agreement addressing charges of neglect of a dependent, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and aiding the possession of a controlled substance. She was also placed on formal probation for 18 months.

Bridges was arrested in June after Terre Haute Police investigated a report that in May, Bridges drove three boys — ages 14, 14 and 13 — to a local liquor store where one of the boys gave her $20 and asked her to buy alcohol, which they consumed. A few days later, Bridges gave one of the boys some Xanax after he reportedly requested the drug for back pain.

The judge gave Bridges two weeks to begin participating with the in-home detention, or else serve her sentence in the Indiana Department of Correction.
