Suspect in armed robbery to appear in court on Friday

TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute teenager is scheduled to appear in Vigo Superior Court 1 on Friday to face a possible charge of robbery stemming from a holdup at a bus station Monday.

Brice Holden, 19, was arrested at a house in the 1800 block of South Harding Street near the Greyhound bus station on Idaho Street after the Special Response Team of the Terre Haute Police Department was called to the scene.

Holden did not appear in court Tuesday morning, because of his appearance in Terre Haute City Court on unrelated warrants. A juvenile suspect who was arrested with Holden after the alleged incident faces possible charges in Vigo County Juvenile Court.

Detective Justin Sears told Judge John Roach that two men were at the bus station when they were approached by the two male suspects, who asked for cigarettes and then continued on their walk. The suspects returned a short time later and demanded cash and cigarettes from the alleged victims, Sears said. One of the victims fled the scene, but the older man handed over about $100 after Holden allegedly showed a gun tucked in his pants, the detective said.

The alleged victim who fled the scene told police he was able to watch the holdup from a distance and saw the suspects go into the house on Harding Street. Police were called, and the owner of the house came outside peacefully and gave police permission to search her home.

The juvenile suspect came out of the home and gave himself up to police. Holden was located by police in the basement crawl space of the home. A black BB handgun was also found in the crawl space where Holden was hiding, Sears said.

The alleged victims positively identified Holden and the juvenile as the two suspects from the robbery.

Roach set Friday as the deadline for the filing of formal charges against Holden, and set a possible initial hearing date of Tuesday morning in the case.
