THPD investigating two early morning robberies

TERRE HAUTE — Two robberies that occurred early today are now under investigation by Terre Haute Police.

The first incident, reported at 4:56 a.m., allegedly occurred at 14th and Poplar streets in the parking lot of Family Dollar.

Assistant Chief Shawn Keen reports that two men were inside a vehicle in the parking lot when a suspect approached the vehicle, punched the driver in the face and pulled him out of the vehicle. The passenger in the vehicle jumped out, and the suspect drove off in the vehicle.

Police have since recovered the vehicle and are seeking a suspect in the case.

An unrelated robbery occurred at 6:50 a.m.

Keen said that a taxi driver told police that he had driven a man from Georgetown, Ill., to the 400 block of North 13th Street in Terre Haute. The driver said that prior to the passenger exiting the vehicle, the man placed what felt like a gun against the back of the driver’s head, and demanded all of the money in the cab. The suspect took the money and fled.

The suspect is described as 6-feet tall, slim, and in his late 20s or early 30s.

Keen said that police have a few leads and are looking for a suspect.

Anyone with information on either of the robberies can call Terre Haute Police at 812-238-1661.
