Artwork premieres slated for Friday

TERRE HAUTE — A 2013 Year of the River event Friday night will have folks gathering on the banks of the Wabash River for a unique artistic experience.

Sala Wong and Peter Williams will present the premieres of two new media intervention artworks along the Wabash River at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute. In cooperation with the Year of the River and Art Spaces Inc., these two independent artworks flow together in space and time.

Starting at 8 p.m., Williams’ “Grasping Elapsing,” a multichannel digital artwork, will delicately play upon the horizontal and vertical forms of the river’s edge and translate the water’s surface along a spectrum of world events. This project is supported in part by the Indiana Arts Commission.

At 9 p.m., Wong’s “Indistinct” will begin to transition-in with poetic textimages and ephemeral surfaces of light. This projected media artwork will transform the act of reading into an indeterminate, elusive aesthetic experience that begins and ends with the flow of the river.

The artists will be present throughout the duration of the show. This event is free and open to the public.
