Senior living complex planned on city’s south side
Thompson Thrift will be general contractor
TERRE HAUTE —
A new independent senior living community is coming to Terre Haute.
Crestline Communities, an Indianapolis development company, is building Park Place Apartments on the south side of Terre Haute behind the IHOP restaurant.
The new three-story complex, designed for people age 55 and older, will include 79 one- and two-bedroom apartments. Construction began in June and is expected to be completed in February, project officials said.
“Things are coming along very well,” said Chris Austin, vice president of development with Crestline Communities. An aging population has made such developments very popular across the country in recent years, he said.
Rents at the new complex will be based on residents’ incomes, Austin said. The project qualified to be a part of a federal housing program designed to create affordable housing for seniors, he said. Housing vouchers will be accepted, he added.
Each floor of the new 88,200-square-foot building will include a community space. The building will also feature a ground-floor community room and a kitchen facility, Austin said.
The apartments “should go over very well,” Austin said. One-bedroom apartments will be 766 square feet while two-bedroom apartments will measure 960 square feet, he said.
Terre Haute-based Thompson Thrift Construction is the general contractor on the project. Outdoor construction work should be completed by late fall and only interior work will be left during the winter months, said Scott Kleinknight, project manager for Thompson Thrift.
Although construction work has already started at the site, which is on the southwest corner of Wheeler and Arleth streets, an official groundbreaking ceremony is set for Wednesday morning.
Crestline Communities specializes in developing and managing multifamily properties in the Midwest, according to a news release issued by Thompson Thrift this week. Crestline will probably employ about three people at the Park Place Apartments, Austin said.
