Vigo County GOP meets to fill local ballot with three new candidates

TERRE HAUTE — GOP precinct and vice precinct committeemen gathered Saturday morning at the Vigo County Public Library to add a few names to the November ballot.

The Republican caucus met to fill three vacancies on the fall ballot. Mike Morris, local businessman and former Republican county councilman, was selected to run for Vigo County clerk. Brad Anderson, a long time Vigo County Republican county councilman and former Vigo County GOP chairman, was selected to run for Vigo County commissioner in district 3, and Caleb Fleschner, a political newcomer, was selected to fill the vacancy for county commissioner for district 2.

“The turnout for this caucus was impressive; I believe that local Republicans are feeling that this may be their year. With a strong national ticket led by Mitt Romney, Richard Mourdock, and Dr. Larry Bucshon, and a statewide ticket featuring GOP gubernatorial candidate Mike Pence, it made sense to meet and strengthen an already strong local group of Republicans on the Vigo County ballot this fall,” said Randall Gentry, the GOP 8th Congressional District vice chairman and local Vigo GOP secretary. “The momentum is at our backs and if you trust the polls, this should be a good year for the Republican Party.”
