TERRE HAUTE —
A countywide burn ban has been continued for Vigo County, and the public is being “strongly encouraged to attend only public fireworks displays and avoid the use of any personal fireworks” due to the ongoing drought conditions.
The county has had brush fires every day in recent weeks, according to Dr. Dorene Hoijnicki, director of the Vigo County Emergency Management Agency.
“The grass is just dry tender,” she said, explaining that discarded cigaretts, sparks from machinery, and even hot vehicle brakes or engines and start fires in the dry grass.
