Four suspects arrested on theft allegations

TERRE HAUTE — Four people accused of stealing from vehicles on Thanksgiving Eve wound up in jail for the day.

According to a news release issued by the Indiana State Police, Trooper Mike Finney and K-9 officer Sabre responded to the Hidden Court North Subdivision in southern Vigo County on Wednesday just before midnight, as neighbors reported three males walking about residential yards.

Upon investigation, Finney reported finding the suspects, two of whom were carrying packages. Meanwhile, a fourth suspect was sitting in a silver, 2002 Chrysler Sebring some distance away.

According to the release, the four were reportedly removing cash and items from vehicles in the areas of Richland Manor, Judith Lane, Sitting Bull Drive and Springhill Commons. Items recovered included $800 in cash, credit cards and personal identification, cell phones, binoculars, cameras, jewelry, a GPS unit, ammunition, and assorted clothing.

Two of the four males were reportedly juveniles. Both were arrested on four allegations of theft and incarcerated in the Vigo County Juvenile Center.

The two adults, Rusty Johnson Jr., 18, Seelyville, and Alexander Land, 18, Terre Haute, were arrested on four felony allegations of theft and incarcerated in the Vigo County Jail.

Both Johnson and Land were released on their own recognizance Thursday. They are scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact Trooper Mike Finney at the Terre Haute post at (812) 299-1151.
