Bloomfield fire units battle house fire for three hours

BLOOMFIELD — Two Bloomfield residents incurred burns and smoke inhalation while escaping a home fire at 338 North Cold Springs Road beginning about 3:37 a.m. Thursday morning.

First arriving units from the Bloomfield Fire Department reported smoke coming from the doors and windows of the home. Kevin Deckard, 43, and Linny Deckard, 36, requested medical attention and were transported to Greene County Hospital.

Firefighters were on the scene for nearly three hours. An exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed the fire started in the living room area and then spread through the rest of the home.

The building suffered heavy smoke, heat and water damage, gutting the living room and kitchen area.

A release from the Bloomfield Fire Department stated that the lack of nearby water hydrants necessitated the calling in of the Richland-Taylor Fire Department for tanker support.
