NEW: Annual Family Y 'Turkey Burn' set for Thursday
TERRE HAUTE — Thursday is Thanksgiving, a time for food, football, family and the fourth annual Turkey Burn.
The Terre Haute Family Y is once again hosting the Turkey Burn, several exercise classes aimed at burning off calories before pigging out on poultry, potatoes and pumpkin pie.
People can “earn them [calories] and burn them before they eat Thanksgiving dinner,” said Kennetha Jordan, the Y’s program director.
This year, there will be a variety of group exercise classes, including step, Zumba, group cycling (limit seven participants), toning and more.
Activities begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 10 a.m. Doors will be locked at 8:30 a.m.
Admission is free, although those who attend are asked to bring one or more canned food items to be donated to Catholic Charities or Light House Mission. You don’t have to be a member to attend, Jordan said.
The activities are open to all ages, although children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.
Last year, the Turkey Burn drew about 50 people, Jordan said.
The schedule of activities:
8:05 a.m. to 8:40 a.m.: Group cycling limited to seven individuals.
8:05 a.m. to 9 a.m.: Step mix and weight training.
8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.: Zumba fitness.
9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.: Step mix and toning.
9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Core work, stretch and cool down.
No 5K race is planned this year.
The Terre Haute Family Y is at 951 Dresser Drive next to Fairbanks Park. Call (812) 232-3358 for more information.
