Oh deer, hunter fails to abide by limits, police say


Sullivan — A Sullivan County man faces a Nov. 30 court date after his arrest for illegal possession of five whitetail deer.

Jack H. Scarbrough, 71, of Shelburn was arrested Monday by Indiana Conservation Officers at his home. He was taken to the Sullivan County Jail, where he posted 10 percent of a $15,000 bail and was released the same evening.

Scarbrough was charged with five counts of illegal possession of whitetail deer, a class-B misdemeanor.

Officers received a tip that Scarbrough was in possession of the deer, which were found in various places on the Scarbrough property in various states of processing.

Conservation officers also seized a rifle.

As part of the same investigation, Shauna M. Anderson, 33, of Merom was charged with one count of illegal possession of whitetail deer.

According to state law, a person who takes a deer or a wild turkey in violation of the regulations commits a class-B misdemeanor. The fines amount to $500 for the first violation and $1,000 for each subsequent violation.
