Brazil man in critical condition following accident

TERRE HAUTE — A Brazil man remained in critical condition Monday evening after wrecking a pickup truck into a tree near Terre Haute International Airport late Saturday.

Robert M. Modglin, 25, was driving a 2000 GMC pickup southbound from Indiana 42 on Sugar Grove Avenue when the truck went off the road into a tree at a high rate of speed, according to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff’s Deputy Brent Spier reported that the truck tires left yaw marks on the road for 200 feet before hitting the tree.

Modglin was found unresponsive, pinned inside the truck and bleeding heavily from a head injury.

He was extricated by fire personnel and transported by TransCare ambulance to the airport, where he was airlifted by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.
