Terre Haute South Spell Bowl prepares for state finals

TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute South’s Spell Bowl team, led by Peggy Grabowski, is preparing for the state finals today at Purdue University.

In preparation, the team had a competition within the walls of South Vigo High School, “Team vs. Teachers.”

“The competition was very fun. The teachers tried their best to take down the Spell Bowl team — but to no avail. The team really appreciates the teachers’ support,” said Grabowski.

The team practices three times a week and Grabowski says the team is very committed and rarely misses.

The commitment has paid off, as the team took first place at the regional competition.

“I am confident that the team will spell to the best of their ability (at state finals), because they diligently studied their words,” said Grabowski.

The Spell Bowl members include: Capt. Kasi Oxendine, Amber Brough, Allie Crume, Zahin Haque, Cindy Himes, Art Hutchins, Samantha Ivaturi, Anisha Joenathan, Alicia McDonald, Beth McDonald, Carly McDonald, Eesha Purohit, Ellie Schaefer, Mitra Sharifi, Angela Song, Emma Sperry and Stephanie Theide.
