Sullivan County teenager dies in vehicle accident

SULLIVAN — A Hymera teenager died in a single-vehicle accident early Saturday south of Farmersburg in Sullivan County.

Carl Crichfield, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 2:48 a.m. accident, which occurred about a mile east of U.S. 41, halfway between Shelburn and Farmersburg. The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department reported that Crichfield was driving north on County Road 200 East just south of County Road 950 North when the vehicle ran off the east side of the road. The driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to slide sideways across the road. The car went into a ditch on the west side of the road, overturned onto its passenger side and hit a tree.

Assisting at the scene were units from the Farmersburg and Jasonville Police departments.
