TERRE HAUTE — Covenant Cooperative Ministry is raising the flag of charity as the holiday season nears.
Rose Aycock, executive director of the CCM, said the group has launched its annual drive for Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets. About 400 families are still in need of sponsors for this season, she said.
“It was a little more than that last year, but we already have some sponsors,” she said.
In addition to food baskets, the group also operates its annual Christmas Teen Angels and Little Angel Trees, providing gifts for children up to the age of 17.
“It’s whatever they want to put in the basket,” Aycock said of donations, which can be either food or monetary. Typically donors provide a holiday dinner’s worth of food, including a turkey or ham, stuffing, pie, vegetables, fruit, bread and trimmings. Donors can bring the goods to CCM or deliver it themselves. “Either way,” she said.
The group hopes to raise $2,000 toward the project. This drive is running through Nov. 13, but donations are accepted year-round.
