H1N1 vaccination continues this week at Vigo schools

Students at West Vigo Middle School, West Vigo High School and Consolidated, Fayette and Franklin elementary schools lined up Friday to receive their H1N1 vaccination. A little more than 800 students received the H1N1 vaccine at Friday’s school-based clinics in Vigo County.

“The school clinics went very smoothly. We had about a 45 percent vaccination rate,” Ray Azar, director of Student Services for the Vigo County School Corp., stated in a news release.

The school-based clinics will continue on a daily basis until each of the schools has had a chance for students to be vaccinated (contingent upon the availability of the vaccine). H1N1 vaccination clinics were to be conducted Tuesday at Sarah Scott Middle School and Fuqua, Devaney and Farrington Grove elementary schools and today at Otter Creek Middle School and Terre Town and Ouabache elementary schools.

All students must have a signed permission slip to obtain the H1N1 vaccination. Students in grades K-3 must have a parent present at the time of vaccination. Students in grades 4 through 12 will not need a parent present to receive the vaccine.

For more information, contact the Vigo County Health Department at (812) 462-3428.
