Multiple charges filed following wreck

TERRE HAUTE — Seven criminal charges have been filed against a Terre Haute man who allegedly wrecked a vehicle into a front yard at 16th and Ohio streets.

Jeffrey Vogel, 28, was arrested by Terre Haute Police following the 1:25 a.m. Sunday accident. Police report that Vogel left the scene after the accident. He was intoxicated when he was found later walking down the center of 16th Street near Orchard Street. He reportedly sustained a broken nose in the crash, and he resisted police efforts to have him transported to Union Hospital for treatment. He did receive medical treatment, however, and during the transport to the Vigo County Jail, he allegedly began resisting again and spit on a police officer.

Vogel appeared by video for an initial hearing Monday afternoon in Vigo Superior Court Division 5 where he was charged with battery by bodily waste, a class-D felony; driving while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement, both class-A misdemeanors; failure to stop after an accident and driving without a license, both class-C misdemeanors; public intoxication, a class-B misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, a class-D misdemeanor.

Judge Michael Rader set Vogel’s bail at $15,000, with 10 percent allowed.

A trial date of June 8 was set for Vogel, and he will be appointed a public defender.
