Plea, sentencing under advisement

TERRE HAUTE — A plea agreement and sentencing for a Terre Haute man accused of child solicitation has been taken under advisement in Vigo Superior Court Division 3.

John McCalister, 50, is scheduled to be released from the Vigo County Jail on Friday under an agreement that set a three-year sentence for the class-D felony charge.

The criminal case against McCalister was filed in February alleging that he offered $100 to a 14-year-old female in exchange for sex in December 2008. The child reported the incident to family members, who then notified police.

Judge David Bolk on Monday read the agreement, which calls for 18 months of the sentence to be served in prison and 18 months suspended on probation. McCalister will complete his prison term on Friday, thanks to credit for good behavior.

McCalister also is to have no contact with children younger than age 16 and no contact with his alleged victim.
