TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute man has been accused of stealing $300 from a person early Friday in the Circle K parking lot on Lafayette Avenue.
Jake Taylor Feider, 18, faces a class-C felony robbery charge, which carries a prison term of 2-8 years if convicted.
Detective Troy Davis of the Terre Haute Police told Vigo Superior Court Division 1 Judge Michael Eldred that Feider and another young man robbed a person by grabbing the man’s wallet and fleeing the parking lot at about 3 a.m. The wallet was recovered, but the victim said it was missing $300. About an hour after the robbery, a police officer patrolling the area noticed a man walking along the street who fit the description of one of the robbers. The officer stopped Feider and took him back to the Circle K where a clerk identified him as a suspect in the robbery. The robbery victim also identified Feider as the culprit, according to police.
Eldred found probable cause of Feider’s arrest and ordered him held in the Vigo County jail on bail of $35,000 with no 10 percent allowed. Attorney Luther Garcia was appointed as Feider’s public defender. The county prosecutor has until Oct. 14 to file formal charges in the case.
