A bicyclist died Tuesday after collapsing along Indiana 71 about 1.5 miles south of U.S. 36 in Vermillion County.
The victim, Joseph A. Nysewander, 70, of Mooresville and his wife were staying at Thousand Trails campground, Indiana State Police said.
State Master Trooper Gary Winters found Nysewander unconscious at the scene after he sustained a head injury from the apparent fall.
Vermillion County EMS and Dana Fire/Rescue personnel were called for medical assistance. During the victim’s treatment at the scene, he became unresponsive and CPR was initiated by the emergency responders. The bicyclist was transported to Union Hospital-Clinton for treatment and later pronounced dead.
Investigators and the emergency room physician believe a previous heart condition contributed to the incident.
