TERRE HAUTE —
No new building permits will be issued for development at Cobblestone Crossing until its dispute with nearby residents is settled.
Vigo County commissioners have told the county building inspector not to issue any new building permits to Cobblestone Crossing. However, that order does not halt construction now under way at the complex south of Terre Haute.
In a statement issued today, Commissioners Mike Ciolli, Judy Anderson and Paul Mason called the concerns of Woodgate and other subdivision residents “legitimate,” but stopped short of meeting their demands.
About seven apartment buildings are presently in some stage of construction at Cobblestone.
Residents of Woodgate and Viscaya Point had been hoping the commissioners would issue a stop-work order on the construction.
The commissioners, in their one-page statement, said they want to encourage negotiations between the residents and the developers.
Residents of Woodgate have complained about apartment building construction taking place near their homes. They contend some of the apartments are being constructed without proper zoning, an allegation county officials deny.
