Golf director hoping special rates will boost attendance

TERRE HAUTE — Parks officials hope golf specials will entice more players to Hulman Links in coming weeks.

Dave Kennedy, director of golf for the City of Terre Haute, told members of the parks and recreation board Wednesday that special rates could help boost numbers at a course which has been impacted by heat and drought.

Golfers at Hulman Links will be able to play 18 holes, with a cart and lunch included, for $27 between Monday and Thursday.

“For the rest of the year,” he said.

In other business, construction has recently been completed on a new gazebo at Deming Park. Superintendent Eddie Bird said the structure, located near the park’s back pond, will make a great place for wedding ceremonies and other events. Made possible by a $5,000 gift from the Terre Haute Area Association of Realtors, he said it includes electricity and is available for rent.

Individuals interested in donating pictures of the Wabash River are invited to contact the department at (812) 232-2727, Bird added. In recognition of 2013 being dubbed “Year of the River,” the department’s annual calendar will be created in accordance with that theme. Photos of the Wabash River will be incorporated throughout the publication, and Bird said members of the public can submit their own shots.
