Terre Haute man injured in I-70 crash

TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute man sustained multiple cuts and was transported to an Indianapolis hospital following a one-car crash on Interstate 70 near the 36-mile marker in Putnam County at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Robert S. Van Dyke, 65, of Terre Haute, was listed in good condition Thursday afternoon at Methodist Hospital. His passenger, Linda L. Koenig, 52, of Windsor Heights, Iowa, was treated at the scene for back, neck and wrist injuries. She was also transported to Methodist Hospital via ambulance, and was reported to be in good condition Thursday afternoon.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Van Dyke’s 2005 Dodge Neon was eastbound in the right lane when, for an unknown reason, the car veered left across the passing lane and into the guardrail. The car rolled over, injuring both the driver and passenger.

Investigation is continuing into whether seatbelts were in use. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Senior Trooper DuJuan McFadden was the investigating officer. He was assisted by Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies, Putnam County Operation Life ambulance personnel, a CSX Railroad police officer and other ISP troopers.

Eastbound I-70 remained open during the crash investigation and cleanup efforts, but traffic was slowed for about an hour.
