Mecca Fire Chief Michael R. Collom, 38, remains in the Parke County Jail after a vehicle he was driving crashed through a home, killing a man and injuring his spouse.
Collom was initially arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, however he could face a Class C felony charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in a death, said Parke County Chief Deputy Sheriff Bill Todd.
Collom was driving a 2006 Ford Mustang on Wabash Road when he lost control of his car about 4:46 a.m. today striking the north side of a house at 4935 Craig St. in Mecca, Todd said. That side of the house had a bedroom, Todd said.
Stacey Williamson, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene by Parke County deputy coroners Phyllis Dwyer and Jerry Pearcy. His wife, Mary Williamson, 46, was flown by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Todd said.
Four children in the house were not injured.
An alcohol field test was performed on Collom at the scene as well as a blood test at Union Hospital Clinton, where Collom was taken after the accident complaining of pain, Todd said.
In addition, an accident scene reconstruction was performed “however we do not have that report yet,” Todd said.
Collom remains in the Parke County Jail without bail, pending his arraignment in Parke County Circuit Court.
