Police arrest two suspects on burglary charges

TERRE HAUTE — Two men who police believe were attempting to burglarize a house in southern Vigo County were arrested after the owner came home and found the intruders’ vehicle in the driveway.

The resident, who believed his home was being burglarized, blocked the suspects’ vehicle with his own and called police. The incident happened about 10:50 a.m. Monday.

Officers with Indiana State Police and the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene and apprehended one of the suspects, who had fled out a broken window in the residence.

The second suspect fled to a neighbor’s residence and hid in a pole barn until police apprehended him.

An investigation showed that the suspects got inside the home by forcing the back door open. Once inside, they had ransacked every bedroom in the residence, according to a Vigo County Sheriff’s Department news release.

Arrested were Matt Cook, 30, and Darin Wilson, 29, both of Terre Haute, for burglary, a class-B felony, and resisting arrest, a class-A misdemeanor.

Before they were arrested, Cook and Wilson were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries they received to their hands after they broke windows in the home, police said.
