Wall of 1800s Attica hotel collapses during storm

ATTICA —  A brick wall on a small-town hotel in western Indiana dating to the 1800s collapsed during a weekend storm.

Authorities say no one was hurt when the bricks fell from a rear wall of the Hotel Attica in the Fountain County city of Attica. Fire Chief Ed O’Farrell tells the Journal & Courier (http://on.jconline.com/PayQA3 ) that investigators believe the storm that pelted with area with more than four inches of rain Saturday night caused the collapse.

The hotel was built in 1853, but the damaged section was constructed in the 1880s. The roof of the two-story wing remained standing, but wall framing and insulation was exposed.

The hotel remained open except for the damaged wing.

Owner Jeff Stout says he won’t know about repairs until his insurance company reviews the damage.
