Airport board unanimously names Foraker as new president

TERRE HAUTE — An old hand takes on a new role in the aviation community this week.

Wednesday evening, members of the Terre Haute International Airport board of directors unanimously approved Bill Foraker as their president for the coming year. Outgoing president Chris Doll will serve as the board’s treasurer.

Foraker noted the group’s excitement at this week’s Collings Foundation’s Wings of Freedom Tour, which features walk-through tours of World War II era planes, including the B-17 and B-24. More such activities are in the works for this year, such as an air show or open house in October.

“I started flying when I was 40, so about 20 years ago,” the aviation enthusiast and retired fund raiser said.

Foraker’s aviation experience includes more than 1,100 hours of flight time, as well as ownership of a 1958 Piper Comanche 250. A Young Eagle pilot with more than 100 flights, he also belongs to the Warbirds of America and serves in the WWII Historical Reenactment Society’s COMNAVAIRPAC squadron.

Professionally, Foraker was most recently the director of development, special programs, at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, before which he served at Indiana State University in the Office of Sponsored Programs and School of Technology. His private-sector experience includes work for groups ranging from General Motors to Paige’s Music, and six years in the U.S. Navy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing technology and masters in electronics technology, both from ISU, as well as work toward a doctorate in computer-based training systems.

Foraker said he hopes to build on the airport’s growing momentum.

“We have a lot of great things going on out here,” he said, emphasizing his intent to increase public participation at the facility.
