TERRE HAUTE —
The trial date has changed for a defendant in the April 2011 death of a Terre Haute man.
Anton Grant, 44, formerly of Lafayette, has an April 23 trial date after a hearing Tuesday morning in Vigo Superior Court 1.
Grant was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery for allegedly beating Raymond Hamilton, 53, with a shotgun in the early morning hours of April 3 at Hamilton’s apartment in the 1100 block of Seventh Avenue. Hamilton died a few days later.
At the time of the incident, Terre Haute Police stated that Hamilton was able to give police the name of a suspect in the case, and told police that he had been beaten with the butt end of a shotgun.
A trial for Grant was scheduled for March 13. However, Judge John Roach granted a motion to continue the trial on Tuesday, citing some upcoming meetings and witness depositions still to be taken.
Roach set a follow-up hearing for March 20 to check on the progress of the case toward its trial date.
