Police searching for burglary suspects after Saturday incident

TERRE HAUTE — A search for burglary suspects was under way Saturday evening after an elderly woman discovered a man armed with a knife in her residence.

According to a news release issued by the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, a resident in her 90s was in the basement of her home in the 6000 block of North 35th Street, when she heard noise upstairs. When she went to see what it was at about 11:30 a.m., she found one white male in a gray hooded sweatshirt holding a large kitchen knife, the release stated. The woman and the suspect fled the residence.

A witness told investigators that two white males in their late teens or early 20s were later spotted in a yard near the Northwind apartments, one of whom discarded a Notre Dame sweatshirt. One of the males reportedly dropped an item believed to have been stolen from the elderly woman’s property.

Chief Deputy Clark Cottom, of the Vigo County Sheriff Department, said the suspects remained at-large late Saturday afternoon.

An air and ground search was under way Saturday evening and a city-wide “code red” was issued, according to the release. Individuals with information about the suspects are asked to call 911.
