Man facing battery charges classified habitual offender

TERRE HAUTE — A habitual offender designation has been filed against a Terre Haute man who faces a class-C felony battery charge after a Sept. 14 stabbing in the 1300 block of Chestnut Street.

Isaiah Batson, 29, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery after the incident.

At a hearing Thursday in Vigo Superior Court 3, Judge David Bolk told Batson that because he has two prior unrelated felony convictions stemming from an armed robbery and a residential entry, a conviction on this new charge would result in the habitual offender enhancement to a prison sentence.

Terre Haute Police report that witnesses said Batson was riding his bike along the street when he stopped in front of a residence and got into an argument with another man, who is believed to have knocked Batson to the ground.

Witnesses told police that after the two men fought, Batson chased the other man and allegedly stabbed him.

Batson remains in the Vigo County Jail with bail set at $25,000 with no 10 percent allowed. He returns to court Monday for setting of trial dates.
