I-70 cleared after wrecks in icy weather

Multiple accidents due to the icy weather late Thursday were cleared up along Interstate 70 by midday today, authorities report.

A box truck rolled over near the Putnam County line late Thursday and a semitrailer slid into a ditch and jackknifed at the eastbound 7-mile marker in Vigo County. The jackknifed semi was pulled out and towed this morning after the weather cleared.

No injuries were reported in any of the slide-off accidents, reports Sgt. Jared Nicoson of the Indiana State Police at Putnamville, and I-70 is reported clear of ice and snow, but still wet as of noon today.

“It may be slick in spots,” Nicoson said. “And the county roads probably still have some slush on them.”

Police caution motorists to slow down in winter weather, and to carry an emergency kit of water, snacks and a blanket in case of getting stranded off the road while traveling.
