Family searching for father missing since Friday

TERRE HAUTE — A family is searching for a Clay County man last seen around midday Friday at a Terre Haute bank.

David M. Schroeder, 56, of rural Brazil, was last seen at about 12:30 p.m. Friday at First Financial Bank’s main branch in downtown Terre Haute.

His son, Dave Schroeder, told the Tribune-Star today that David Schroeder sent a text to his wife, indicating he was heading home to meet her for lunch, but he never showed up, and no one has heard from him since that text.

Dave Schroeder said that friends and relatives have been “driving everywhere between here and his [dad’s] house for the last three days.”

The 56-year-old man, who operates Simrell’s on South Seventh Street, lives west of Brazil off County Road 500 West.

Dave Schroeder said his father has some medical issues that could have contributed to his disappearance. Schroeder said Terre Haute Police have assigned a detective to the case, and a Silver Alert could be issued after his father’s doctor confirms the man’s medical situation to police.

David Schroeder is described as about 5-feet, 10-inches tall, weighing 230 pounds, with salt and pepper hair and a short pony tail. He was driving a green 2000 Ford Ranger extended cab, flare-side truck, license plate number 1271275, according to a vehicle description posted by family on Facebook.

THPD Assistant Chief Shawn Keen said the descriptions of Schroeder and his truck have been entered into a national database and distributed to all law enforcement agencies.

Police have also been tracking Schroeder’s cell phone, but there has been no activity since the text to his wife.

Keen said police have no reason to believe that foul play is involved in the man’s disappearance.

Anyone who might have seen the missing man or his truck since Friday can call THPD at 812-238-1661.
